If there is something that craft beer lovers usually have in common, it is our incessant curiosity. That curiosity, together with the excitement of learning something new every day, allows us not only to feel a little more alive, but to grow as people, evolve and develop culturally. Because culture is made, it is not born. And it is learned. But for this, we need passionate people behind it, willing to contribute, to disseminate, and we can find a great example of this in Alberto Benavides, founder and editor of Bar&Beer Magazine.
Bar&Beer Magazine is the first magazine in Spanish specialized in bar and beer culture, and a reference - for more than 20 years - for both aficionados and professionals in the field. An interesting fact: the oldest collaborator of the publication, until his death on August 30, 2007, was the English journalist Michael Jackson, "The Beer Hunter." So this is no joke.
Alberto tells us that in the mid-nineties, in Vigo, he created More Beer!, a fanzine dedicated to music, beer and comics. But after launching several issues, and looking for a professional opportunity, "I decided to sacrifice one of my hobbies and in 1999 I founded the magazine Bar&Beer”.
Since then and until today, Alberto has been making the edition of Bar&Beer compatible "with the importation of beer, graphic design and some other ephemeral life activities". He himself acknowledges that "if I became a treasure hunter I would end up keeping all the objects and IKEA has buried my vocation as a carpenter, which means I will have to continue to work in the world of beer".
A great friend of C R A F T E D told us that Alberto, in addition to being a benchmark of beer culture in our country, is also an avid vinyl collector. This sounded promising, so we contacted him and suggested that he would be part of the group of illustrious selectors of our musical series “Bottle Share Playlist”.
Alberto not only accepted our proposal, but he has prepared an exclusive Playlist that he describes with the following words: “This eclectic selection of songs by some of my favorite musicians, transmits the moments that I experience during the birthing process of each issue of Bar & Beer. I love the way a freshly printed magazine smells! ” Thank you very much Alberto!
