We have a new “Bottle Share Playlist” in C R A F T E D! One of those that will brighten your day. Your day, your week ..., or even your month! With the things that are happening right now, it is a pleasure to be able to have a selection like this one that Judit Càrtex, brewer at Garage Beer Co. and Vice President of GECAN has prepared for us. It is like entering a small oasis for a moment, to disconnect and enjoy some music.
Judit, who was born within the Roman wall in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, discovered her fondness for beer at a very young age. Did you know that at 15, she wrote a handwritten letter to the Three Wise Men asking them for a whole box of Voll-Damm beers? And they brought it to her! The myrrh, gold and incense were left for her neighbors...
Her first brewing workshop was in 2008, and the impact it made on her was spectacular. Since then, she started looking for information, contacts, courses, festivals, and she even worked on setting up her own brewpub in 2011. But as Judit herself points out, that "was only the seed to brew my first beer as a nomad in 2014." It was then that the “Cervesa BARRA” project was born.
After a year brewing as a gypsy brewer, and with the help of several partners and other investors, she decided to start brewing her beers in her own facilities. Unfortunately due to a landslide and the sinking of the building floor, Judit had to prematurely abandon her project without being able to recover anything.
Thanks to the help of colleagues from the sector, and after working at La Rovira, Judit not only managed to get back on her feet but also became part of Garage Beer Co.’s staff. An excellent choice made by one of our top breweries, that all of us who live in the city are extremely proud of.
Judit, who has also been a part of the Gremi d’elaboradors de cervesa artesana i natural (GECAN) since the time of BARRA, was voted as Vice President of the Board a year ago, something that makes her very proud because, as she mentions, “I can give back through hard and tireless work everything that my colleagues have given me during the years”.
As for the Playlist, there is no doubt that we are dealing with someone who (really) loves music. Judit, who in addition to having worked for a record label, was once the editor of the skazine FBI (Fuentes Bien Informadas), and drummer in a surf / r'n'r group - with which she recorded a demo - has been married for 26 years to one of the singers of the legendary Skatalà band, pioneers of Jamaican rhythms and a major player in the skinhead scene on the Peninsula. You can imagine that the vinyl that rotate on the record player at her home are serious stuff.
That said, I leave you with her fantastic selection of rocksteady, ska, reggae and punk-rock songs, including a rumba jewel from La Faraona (Lola Flores). Thank you very much Judit for sharing this with us!
